- Per Tim Gilbert
In the same year, 1907, that the B&M ordered wood underframe reefers from Laconia, the New Haven ordered steel underframe ones from American Car & Foundry. Apparently, by 1911, the New Haven deemed themselves to have too many so they sold their excess 250 cars to the B&M - the "junior partner" in Mellen's quest for a New England transportation monopoly. The #12800-13050 series reefers were the B&M's oldest "house cars" having a steel underframe by one year - the #64680-65687 boxcar series was built in 1908. Some cars may have had their bunkers removed an placed in milk service as #12066-12098. In 1937, these cars were transferred to Passenger milk service and renumbered in the #1800-1849 series. The passenger-type trucks were probably the same type which many of the narrow monitor cabooses had.
- [KGA] Assuming Tim is correct, from looking at NYNH&H listings in the ORERs, it appears these were the #22000-22500 series on the New Haven. First appearing in the ORERs sometime after 5/1907, and on or before 12/1907. Total 500 (501?) cars. As of 8/1910, there were still 500 cars on the NH roster. By 8/1911, the number had dropped to 250. Dimensions also (more or less) match between this NH listing and the B&M listing. Also listed as "Box, Refrigerator" in the NH listing.
- [KGA comment] These were a particularly "nomadic" group of cars:
- After being "bought" from the NH...
- Some were renumbered into 16xx series milk cars
- Some were converted to 120xx series milk cars (many with MTC reporting marks)
- Some of the 120xx series cars were renumbered to 18xx series milk cars
- Note the change in capacity from 60000 to 40000 lbs on 10/1930.
I am ASSUMING they did not change the trucks, so the "LD LMT" on the car side probably needs a "Star" (★) after this date

KGA NOTE: there is no series 118** listed in the ORER. Looking at the print, the first "1" does not appear as bright as the other numbers. I am wondering if it is merely paint streaking down from the "F" above it??? (or bleed thru from when the car was numbered 12800-13049?)[1]1833 post 1934 X MTC G?
